Class Descriptions
Intensive Course
(30 hours)
Our two-week summer course provides intensive and thorough coverage of
both substantive and strategic SSAT preparation. An overview of strategies
will be included for all four sections of the exam (Verbal, Reading, Math,
and the Writing Sample), as well as structured vocabulary building, a
thorough math concepts review, and an introduction to structured essay-writing.
The format and substance of the review will be shaped by the skill level
of the students. Students will begin by working both collaboratively and
individually as they apply new strategies. As the course progresses, there
will be ample opportunities to practice in realistic test conditions.Daily
homework assignments are given, with flexible options provided to students
with less free time. Each class is taught by an experienced instructor
with the help of a teaching assistant.
Regular Course
(24 hours)
There are two formats to the eight-week course: (a) 3-hour classes every
Saturday; and (b) 2-hour classes twice weekly. The course seeks to provide
a general overview of both test content and test-taking strategies for
the SSAT, with additional opportunities for in-class practice as the course
progresses. In order to maximize the use of class time, students are given
homework assignments to reinforce the material covered. At the end of
the course, each student will receive a full progress report and a roadmap
to structure their further study.
Crash Course
(18 hours)
The Crash Course provides a condensed overview of test content and strategy.
The class will review the math, reading, verbal, and essay-writing concepts
tested by the SSAT. Students will also be introduced to the most effective
test-taking methods. Homework assignments are given to reinforce the material
covered. Guided by the instructor, students will discuss and develop longer-term
study schedules to structure their test preparation after the end of the
course.
