Our Seminars
US Colleges Seminar
Cost: Free
Anyone interested in attending a US college should attend this seminar.
We will provide a complete overview of the entire application process, revealing
the inside knowledge of what it takes to get into some of the best schools.
The seminar will also cover athletic recruiting into US colleges for students
in Canada. This seminar is for both students and parents.
The application procedure for US colleges is often overwhelming, especially
for Canadians unfamiliar with the process. Most Canadian universities have
a simplified application with the admissions decision almost solely based
on grade 12 averages. In comparison, top US colleges like the Ivy League
schools take a holistic approach to evaluating students, taking into consideration
the students' grades, SAT scores, extra-curricular activities and college
essays. In this seminar, we will reveal the details that make or break an
application.
The "US College Admissions" Seminar will cover the following
topics:
- College admissions timeline
- How to choose a school
- Admissions strategies
- Break-down of the application
- Personal essays
- SAT I/SAT II subject tests
- The interview
- Financial aid
- Athletic recruiting
Athletic Recruiting
Cost: Free
High school athletes often assume that, if they are talented enough, colleges
will find them and offer them a scholarship. As a result, they often wait
passively for schools to approach them. The truth is, though, that many
colleges lack the resources to thoroughly scout athletic talent, especially
in the case of US colleges looking for Canadian athletes. This passive approach
can hurt one's chance of getting into an ideal program.
This seminar is run by Student Athlete Planning Services, a partner of Ivy
Global, and helps young athletes and their parents to successfully handle
the recruitment process by treating it as they would a job search. We teach
students how to select the schools which are best for them and to proactively
market themselves. Attending an Ivy Global seminar is a vital first step in
finding success as a student athlete, both students and parents are welcome.
The seminar will cover:
- An overview of NCAA rules
- How to be pro-active in the recruiting process
- How to target the right schools
- How to market yourself
- How to evaluate programs of interest
- Athletic scholarships and financial aid
- How to plan your academics and ultimately, your career
SAT Workshop
Cost: $300+HST
The SAT Prep Workshop is geared towards students who do not have the time
to take a full-length SAT class or who have an upcoming SAT exam they would
like to get ready for. The workshop provides an introduction to the SAT,
general tips and strategies, and will cover all 3 parts of SATs (critical
reading, writing and math).
As part of the workshop, the students will take a mini-SAT diagnostic test
and will be issued a score report at the end of the session. The instructor
will also provide a study roadmap for students in how to further study for
the SATs on their own. The Barron's SAT book, College Board SAT book and
Ivy Global SAT Student Guide will be given to each student and are included in
the cost of the workshop.
Recruiting Workshop
Cost: $300+HST
Our Athletic Recruitment Workshop is a half day workshop designed for the
student-athlete who would like to continue playing at the collegiate level
in the US or Canada. Less than 2% of high school athletes get recruited
simply by playing their sport. The remaining 98% must take a more proactive
approach to achieve their athletic and academic goals.
The workshop is run by Student Athlete Planning Services, a company founded
by Phil David, a former AAA, Junior A and Pro hockey coach. Through his
M.A.P. workbook (My Action Plan), he will navigate students step-by-step
through the athletic recruiting process and give extensive lessons in:
- Athletic Planning
- Academic Planning
- Financial Planning (Scholarships and Aid)
- School and Team Search
- Building an Athletic Resume
- How to Market Yourself
- Taking the SATs
- Navigating NCAA Rules
At the end of the workshop, students will gain a very specific action plan
for targeting their best-fit schools and teams to ensure they don't miss
a step along the way. The M.A.P. workbook is included in the cost of the
workshop.
