LSAT FAQ
How do I register for the LSAT?
The most convenient way is to register online at LSAC.org.
When is the best time to take the LSAT?
It is best take the LSAT early as possible before law school application
deadlines. You also want to factor in the possibility of repeating the LSAT
so it is better to take it at an early test date. The final test date that
many schools will accept for Fall admissions is the prior year's December
test date.
Where can I write the LSAT?
In countries around the world, one can find established test centres in schools,
educational centres, embassies, and other institutions. However, not every
centre offers the LSAT on all testing dates, and spaces are limited, so it
is best to apply early. Click here for a
list of all the established test centres in Canada.
What if I cannot reach any of the LSAC test centres?
If you cannot travel to a listed, established test centre and you live more
than 100 miles away from the closest centre, you may contact LSAC to ask to
establish a non-published test centre.
I've missed the registration deadline for the exam. Can I still register
for the test?
No. The LSAT does not offer walk-in registration on the day of the test.
Can I reschedule my LSAT test date?
Yes; you may change your test date up until about a month before the originally
scheduled date (check the LSAC website for the exact deadline). However, there
is an approximately $70 charge for changing the test date.
Is it a good idea to retake the test?
You should take the test again if you are confident that your performance
on the test did not meet your full potential. However, keep in mind that there
is a possibility that your second score might be lower than your first score,
which would lower your chances of admission into law schools as many schools
consider your average score rather than your highest score, and all schools
have access to your full testing record.
What should I bring on the day of the test?
The following are the only items permitted: LSAT admission ticket, valid
ID, keys, wallet, NONDIGITAL watch, medical or hygiene products, #2 or
HB wooden pencils, pencil sharpener, highlighter, eraser, tissues, snack
(for the break only), beverage (in juice box or plastic container, 591
mL maximum). These must be placed into a transparent Ziploc bag, no larger
than 3.79 liter (one gallon). For security reasons, you may not carry
any electronic items with you, including cell phones and digital watches.
Carrying an electronic item is grounds for disqualification.
